Unit Description:
We are seeking a Nursing Assistant I for our specialized Transplant Acute Care Unit - 5 West. This unit consists of 15 beds dedicated to the care of patients undergoing abdominal transplants, urology, and plastic surgery. Our team provides advanced, specialized care, performing over 125 kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants annually.

Our transplant program is recognized by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and is known for its excellence and dedication in the region.

We focus on enhancing clinical outcomes through a collaborative approach involving education, research, and clinical practice.

As the inpatient facility for the highly regarded UNC Urology, we work closely with physicians to ensure personalized and coordinated care.

In addition to urology and abdominal transplant care, our staff also manages high-risk plastic surgery patients who require reconstructive procedures and treatment for tissue injuries.

These patients often have intricate wound management needs, expertly handled by our skilled team.


This position entails 36 hours of work per week, with 12-hour rotating shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), including weekends and holidays.

Attendance at a weeklong orientation (Monday through Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm) is required, with sessions held biweekly.

Key Responsibilities:


- Provide routine direct and indirect patient care in a healthcare setting under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.


- Assist healthcare providers during examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies in emergencies.


- In psychiatric settings, support patients with reality orientation, engage in behavior modification plans, and facilitate therapeutic activities.


- Observe, collect, and document patient information while delivering care, promptly reporting significant changes to the supervising nurse or physician.


- Assist patients and families during admissions, orientations, and discharges.


- Deliver care and treatments as outlined in the care plan, including vital signs measurement, specimen collection, wound care, and personal care tasks.


- Maintain cleanliness in the work area, restock supplies, and assist in the orientation of new staff and students.


- Reinforce patient education provided by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions.


Qualifications:

Education:
- High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

Licensure/Certification:
- Must be listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Experience:
- Preferred six months of experience as a nursing assistant.

Skills:
- Proficiency in verbal and written English and basic computer skills.
