We are seeking a Nursing Assistant I for our Surgical Trauma Critical Care Unit. This advanced unit, located within the newly established North Carolina Surgical Hospital, is a dynamic, Level 1 Trauma certified facility recognized with the Beacon Gold Award for Excellence. Our 40-bed unit specializes in the management of critically injured trauma and surgical patients, catering to a diverse range of surgical cases including transplant, plastics, oncology, obstetrics, gynecology, gastrointestinal, and orthopedics. Our commitment to teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration ensures that we deliver exceptional "Carolina Care" to the patients and families we support. Our ONE GREAT TEAM is dedicated to facilitating admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges around the clock.

This is a full-time position requiring 36 hours per week, with 12-hour rotating shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), including weekend and holiday rotations. The role comes with a comprehensive benefits package, including accrued PTO hours based on hours worked.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist healthcare professionals during routine examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies in emergencies.

2. In psychiatric settings, support patients in reality orientation, engage in behavior modification plans, provide informal support therapy, de-escalate potentially aggressive situations, and monitor therapeutic activities to ensure emotional and safety needs are met.

3. Observe, gather, and document patient information while providing care, promptly reporting significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.

4. Assist patients and their families during admissions, orient them to the healthcare environment, and support discharge processes.

5. Deliver care and treatments as outlined in the care plan, including vital signs measurement, specimen collection, simple wound care, and supportive interactions with patients and families.

6. Provide direct personal care for daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility.

7. Perform indirect care tasks, including maintaining cleanliness in the work area, changing linens, restocking supplies, and assisting in the orientation of new staff and students.

8. Reinforce patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding of instructions. Distribute educational materials as requested by patients or healthcare providers.

Qualifications

Education:

* High School diploma or General Education Development (GED)

Licensure/Certification:

* Registered as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services

* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Experience:

* Preferably six months of experience as a nursing assistant

Skills and Abilities:

* Proficient in verbal and written English and capable of developing basic computer skills.
