Job Overview

U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the rights and addressing the needs of persons in migration. We are seeking a Program Assistant to support our Refugee Support Services team.

The Program Assistant will work with staff to implement Reception and Placement and Refugee Support Services, including assessing client needs, developing and implementing service plans, and recommending and obtaining services. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in providing social services and be able to establish and maintain professional relationships with providers, vendors, and clients of diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with finding initial housing placement, coordinating with case managers, and securing apartments, furniture, and household goods.
  • Support clients with housing transitions, challenges, and crises, including landlord mediation and emergency financial assistance.
  • Assist Case Managers with file maintenance, updating case management systems, and maintaining confidentiality of information.
  • Provide transportation to social services or health appointments.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in providing social services is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with providers, vendors, and clients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, and database programs.
  • Bilingual/multilingual ability in Arabic, Dari, French, Pashto, Spanish, Swahili is strongly desired.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, insurance, clean driving record, and personal transportation.
  • Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccine required.

Physical Demands:

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
