Ophthalmic Assistant

Under the direction of practice providers, the Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for clinical duties such as obtaining medical records, preparing patients for exams, performing standard tests and measurements, and explaining medication or procedures to patients. Additionally, this role involves administrative duties in conjunction with patient contact.
Responsibilities- Obtain medical records and prepare patients for exams
- Perform standard tests and measurements
- Explain medication or procedures to patients
- Sterilize and clean equipment
- Maintain examination rooms and supplies
- Perform administrative duties in conjunction with patient contact
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology/Biology or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant program or other Health Science degree program preferred
- Graduate of an Ophthalmic Assistant academic degree program
- 1 year experience, preferably in a physician practice or outpatient clinic setting involving patient contact
- 1 year of working under the direction of an Ophthalmologist in preparation of meeting the requirements for certification
- BLS Certification through American Heart Association
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within 18 months of hire
- Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)
