Job Overview

The Correctional Education Coordinator will act as a bridge between Sinclair Community College and the administration, educational personnel, and warden of the correctional institution. This role is essential in addressing the educational needs of the program, facilitating the creation and execution of certification programs, and guiding faculty and staff in adapting to the unique environment of teaching incarcerated adults.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact between Sinclair Community College and the correctional facility's administration and educational staff.
  • Evaluate the educational requirements and opportunities specific to the correctional environment.
  • Collaborate with department heads and deans to design and implement certification programs tailored to the educational needs of incarcerated individuals.
  • Provide orientation for faculty and staff on effective teaching strategies in a correctional context, addressing the diverse needs of adult learners.
  • Manage the security clearance process and assist in addressing instructor requirements as necessary.
  • Supervise the assistant coordinator in daily operational tasks.
  • Oversee support services for incarcerated learners, including academic advising, registration, and tutoring.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and regulations from the correctional facility and Sinclair Community College.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Deliver timely and precise reports to the correctional facility and Sinclair Community College.
  • Responsible for the oversight of facilities and equipment used for program delivery, ensuring adherence to security protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in correctional, law enforcement, or higher education settings is required; supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead educational program development in the complex environment of a correctional facility.
  • Current knowledge and experience within the criminal justice system are essential.
  • Strong professional communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
  • Ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, inmates, and correctional staff.
  • Competence in supervising staff and managing resources efficiently.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn relevant college databases.
  • Must be able to pass a background check as required by the correctional facility.
