Job Summary

The Prison Education Specialist will serve as a key liaison between Sinclair Community College and the correctional facility warden, educational staff, and administration. This role requires a strong understanding of the unique needs and missions of the program, as well as the ability to develop and implement certificate programs that meet the educational needs of incarcerated individuals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain relationships with correctional facility staff and administration to ensure effective program implementation.
  • Assess instructional needs and opportunities within the correctional facility and develop strategies to meet those needs.
  • Collaborate with Sinclair Community College department chairpersons and deans to develop and implement certificate programs that align with the educational needs of incarcerated individuals.
  • Orient staff and instructional faculty to teaching in a correctional setting and working with diverse learners.
  • Oversee the security clearance process and assist in resolving instructor needs as required.
  • Supervise the assistant coordinator in handling day-to-day operational activities.
  • Ensure all policies and regulations of the correctional facility, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, and Sinclair Community College are followed and enforced.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely reports to stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in a correctional, law enforcement, or higher education setting.
  • Ability to exercise leadership in a unique and complex environment.
  • Current working knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituents.
  • Ability to supervise staff and manage resources efficiently.
  • Ability to pass a DRC background check.
