Position Summary

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

PUC National is a non-profit entity dedicated to enhancing, supporting, and advancing the mission of Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools. We collaborate with PUC Schools to deliver a range of essential support services across various domains including Finance, Human Resources, Operations, IT, and Facilities Management.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal Building Operations Manager is someone who is deeply committed to the mission of PUC National, demonstrating leadership, collaboration, and a reflective approach to ensure the success of our schools. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this role involves planning, organizing, and overseeing the maintenance operations across all PUC Schools. The Building Operations Manager will ensure efficient departmental functions, supervise staff, and evaluate performance while managing long-term operational planning and compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee maintenance, custodial services, grounds upkeep, and inventory management for all PUC Schools.
  • Manage special projects related to facilities as directed by the Director of Facilities.
  • Develop and train staff on Emergency Response Plans and School Safety Plans.
  • Monitor and implement traffic management strategies for school locations.
  • Generate reports on service levels and project statuses.
  • Collaborate with PUC National staff and school leadership.
  • Conduct inspections of facilities and coordinate with site administrators on maintenance needs.
  • Interpret plans and engage with contractors, maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Establish and uphold high standards for departmental services, ensuring accountability.
  • Inspect contractor work for compliance with standards and codes.
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring for maintenance operations.
  • Promote safety standards and proactively seek solutions to prevent accidents.
  • Facilitate necessary filings and permit clearances with relevant governmental agencies.
  • Support home office repair requirements and maintain supply inventories.
  • Review plans for maintenance and construction projects.
  • Assist with Requests for Proposals (RFP) and vendor selection in line with organizational policies.
  • Coordinate work orders, schedules, and material procurement for the department.
  • Engage with school personnel during site visits as needed.
  • Maintain essential records and financial documentation.
  • Manage security systems across all school locations.
  • Order materials as required.
  • Be available for emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Work outside of standard hours to oversee projects as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:
  • Valid CA Driver's License.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience:
  • At least 4 years of experience in skilled trades and project management.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • First-Aid/CPR/AED Certification is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Alignment with PUC's core values: excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticity.
  • Able to interpret and apply school district policies and regulations.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to prepare and present clear reports.
  • Experience in training and directing staff.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess situations and determine effective actions.
  • Flexibility to attend evening meetings and travel as required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Demonstrated accountability and strong work ethic.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to kneel, climb, reach, and lift up to 30 pounds. Requires the ability to bend, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms. Safety equipment must be worn as necessary.
