About the Role

Urban Initiatives is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recess Coach to join our team. As a Recess Coach, you will be responsible for implementing the recess schedule for all K-8 school-age youth, expanding Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) knowledge school-wide, and being a proactive team member within their school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and implement recess schedules in partnership with school administration
  • Develop and lead recess sessions for all K-8 students throughout the school day
  • Oversee a team of school staff to support recess and ensure a safe and inclusive environment
  • Build relationships with school staff and students to promote a positive and supportive school culture
  • Lead recess activities with an emphasis on play and SEL, utilizing resources provided to support high-quality recess
  • Manage transitions to and from the lunch and recess spaces to ensure a smooth and efficient process
  • Support school SEL needs, as needed, to promote a positive and supportive school culture
Requirements
  • Passion for Urban Initiatives' mission to use the power of sport and play to empower Chicago's youth
  • Strong time management, administrative, analytical, and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and tasks
  • Superior communication skills, both spoken and written, to effectively communicate with school staff, students, and parents
  • Commitment to restorative practices and promoting a positive and supportive school culture
  • Strong group facilitation and coaching skills to lead recess activities and support school staff
  • Quick learner and problem solver, experienced in managing conflicts and promoting a positive and supportive school culture
  • Self-directed while balancing multiple tasks within a team-based work environment
  • Ability to be flexible and manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality work
  • Commitment to interrupting all forms of oppression in the workplace and promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for youth
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of people, particularly those living in underserved neighborhoods
  • Spanish speaking is a plus
