Position Overview
We are seeking a Director of Engineering to spearhead our AI Platform division. This team is responsible for developing cutting-edge software systems that enhance the Snorkel Flow platform. Responsibilities include creating services for training and deploying generative AI and machine learning models, utilizing innovative data-centric methodologies, and developing libraries that facilitate AI workflows across diverse data types and tasks.
The roadmap for the AI platform encompasses the introduction of new workflows derived from Snorkel AI research, the enhancement of existing AI applications, and the scaling of recently launched features to general availability.
As the Director of Engineering, you will guide, mentor, and expand a team of skilled engineers to achieve Snorkel AI's ambitious growth objectives. Collaboration will be key, as you will work alongside other engineering teams to enhance platform functionalities, engage with product management and clients to accurately assess and fulfill user requirements, partner with applied research to innovate AI methodologies, and collaborate with go-to-market teams to effectively promote and support Snorkel AI solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and develop a proficient team of AI, systems, and backend engineers.
- Deliver AI system capabilities that facilitate new workflows within the Snorkel Flow platform.
- Significantly influence the architecture, design, development, and operation of large-scale, data-centric AI systems and interactive product workflows.
- Engage with product management, field team members, and clients to grasp product use cases, desired functionalities, and scaling needs.
- Contribute actively to Snorkel's engineering culture through mentorship, open dialogue, user-centric approaches, and advocacy for robust engineering practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Over 12 years of professional experience in designing and developing data-intensive software systems.
- At least 4 years of experience in engineering management.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in creating AI-focused software systems.
- Extensive experience in developing data or AI systems for unstructured data types, including natural language, images, or video.
- Experience in building enterprise-grade, user-facing software products.
- Proficiency in architecting and developing production-level web-scale systems, including aspects such as monitoring, telemetry, performance, reliability, and debugging.
- Experience in high-growth technology startups.
- Experience in developing growth initiatives for engineering teams, such as career progression frameworks and mentorship programs.
