Position Overview
We are seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee our AI Platform division. This team is responsible for developing cutting-edge software systems that enhance the Snorkel Flow platform. The focus includes creating services for training and deploying generative AI and machine learning models utilizing advanced data-centric methodologies, along with libraries that facilitate AI workflows across diverse data types and tasks.
The roadmap for the AI platform encompasses the introduction of new workflows inspired by Snorkel AI research (including RAG enrichment for generative AI), the enhancement of existing AI applications (such as document intelligence), and the scaling of recently launched features to general availability (like image classification).
As the Director of Engineering for this group, you will lead, nurture, and expand a skilled team of engineers to achieve Snorkel AI's strategic objectives. You will collaborate across various engineering teams to enhance platform functionalities and develop new AI workflows, engage with product management and clients to gain insights into user requirements, partner with applied research to innovate AI methodologies, and work with go-to-market teams to effectively promote and support Snorkel AI's offerings, ensuring customer success.
Key Responsibilities- Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of AI, systems, and backend engineers.
- Deliver capabilities for AI systems that facilitate new workflows within the Snorkel Flow platform.
- Significantly influence the architecture, design, development, and operation of large-scale, data-centric AI systems and interactive product workflows.
- Collaborate with product management, field teams, and clients to comprehend product use cases, desired functionalities, scaling needs, and more.
- Contribute actively to Snorkel's engineering culture through mentorship, open dialogue, user-centric approaches, and advocacy for robust engineering practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Over 12 years of professional experience in designing and constructing data-intensive software systems.
- At least 4 years of experience in engineering management.
- A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in developing AI-centric software systems.
- Extensive experience in creating data or AI systems for unstructured data types such as natural language, images, or video.
- Experience in building enterprise-level, user-facing software products.
- Proficiency in architecting and developing production-grade web-scale systems, including aspects like monitoring, telemetry, performance, reliability, troubleshooting, and debugging.
- Experience in high-growth technology startups.
- Experience in developing growth initiatives for engineering teams (e.g., career pathways, mentorship programs).
