Clinical Research Neuroscientist

Department: Precision

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Manhattan, New York

Compensation: $155,000 - $165,000 / year

Position Overview
About Precision Neuroscience
Precision is pioneering a direct interface between the human brain and technology, aiming to assist millions globally who are affected by neurological disorders. Founded in 2021, we are at the forefront of developing and commercializing brain-computer interfaces (BCI). As a member of Precision, you will work alongside experts from various disciplines, including neurosurgery, mechanical engineering, machine learning, and microfabrication, to explore new frontiers in neurotechnology. In just two years, we have successfully built and validated a product and initiated human trials in collaboration with leading neurosurgery programs. Your work will contribute to a profoundly impactful mission: restoring capabilities to individuals facing severe neurological challenges, such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and neurodegenerative diseases like ALS. Our technology aims to empower these individuals to regain autonomy, connect with family, and return to their professional lives.

Team Overview:

The Clinical Research team is tasked with designing, executing, and documenting both intra- and extra-operative studies involving our micro ECoG array with patients and medical professionals. This team drives the clinical development and research application of a product that enables individuals with paralysis to operate computers and mobile devices using their thoughts, achieving a level of speed and functionality comparable to that of able-bodied individuals. We are looking for a Clinical Research Neuroscientist to support our clinical research efforts, analyze gathered data, and assist in the preparation of publications and reports. In this role, you will help advance the state-of-the-art in real-time brain mapping and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), playing a vital role in enhancing our understanding of neurological disorders and optimizing BCI performance. This position requires on-site presence in Manhattan, New York, and may involve up to 50% travel. Remote work is not an option. Candidates must currently reside in the United States with valid work authorization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, engineers, and electrophysiologists, to establish data analysis goals and research inquiries.
  • Analyze extensive clinical neural and behavioral datasets.
  • Assist in the design of clinical experiments, preparation, on-site operations, and documentation of human and animal studies.
  • Eventually lead the planning and execution of clinical projects with key collaborating sites, from design through analysis, supporting each site's scientific endeavors.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive results to external collaborators promptly, with guidance from the Electrophysiology team.
  • Communicate insights to the broader team for system/process enhancement, feature development, and study refinement.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A Master's degree or higher in systems/computational neuroscience, computer science, electrical/biomedical engineering, physics, statistics, or related fields. Certifications related to neuromonitoring are also acceptable.
  • A minimum of two years of industry experience, preferably in clinical device research or bioelectronics.
  • Hands-on experience in intraoperative clinical or large animal research.
  • Experience in analyzing time series data, including electrophysiological signals, audio, video, or other sensor modalities.
  • Proficiency in Python (preferred) or MATLAB.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with a strong ability to present scientific concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated individual with a proven track record of thriving in fast-paced environments, effectively managing tight deadlines, and adapting to shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in technical writing, including the preparation of scientific publications and conference presentations.

At Precision, we believe that diverse workforces foster the best culture, company, and products. We are committed to an inclusive environment that values the uniqueness and contributions of every individual. As an equal opportunity employer, Precision does not discriminate based on sex, race, religion, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
