Manufacturing Process Specialist

Position Overview
As a Process Engineer at Westlake, you will spearhead transformative engineering initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, productivity, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Research & Development and Manufacturing to utilize structured processes for introducing new products and concepts.
- Support capital equipment budgeting and specifications to refine existing production methods and innovate new product lines.
- Engage with a skilled, cross-functional team to enhance your expertise in the field.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to strategically plan and develop new products while addressing various production challenges.
- Utilize statistical software to analyze data and present findings in accessible formats.
- Assist in the development and testing of new material compounds to achieve productivity and business goals.
- Drive continuous improvements in production processes to enhance rates, properties, and reduce waste through lab equipment and pilot production trials.
- Foster collaborative relationships with suppliers to stay informed about new machinery and raw materials.
- Contribute to projects beyond extrusion, such as print rolls and injection molding.
- Calculate costs related to formulations and materials for management's assessment of new and existing products.
- Participate in trade shows and training seminars to keep skills current and learn about industry advancements.
- May represent the company in trade association meetings.
- Ensure adherence to federal and state safety and environmental regulations.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all team members and supervisors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by your manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in process engineering, preferably in polymer injection molding and extrusion.
- Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, including manufacturing, testing, and application.
- Six Sigma certification and familiarity with methodologies such as DOE, DMAIC, and FMEA are preferred.
- Proven ability to collaboratively tackle complex problems.
- Experience in making data-driven decisions to identify root causes of production issues.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions and manage multiple variables.
- Proficient in defining problems, collecting data, and building consensus among diverse teams.
- Demonstrated project management and communication skills to lead impactful technical projects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build collaborative relationships.
Physical Requirements
This role may require regular sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment typically includes moderate noise levels in an office setting, with occasional travel to manufacturing facilities where conditions may vary.
