Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled RN Behavioral Health Nurse to join our team at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to emotionally disturbed and/or mentally ill patients in our 50-bed Behavioral Health Hospital Unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume professional responsibility and accountability for a group of residents/patients, including medication/treatment administration, teaching, and supervision of nursing staff.
  • Conduct intake assessments, perform ongoing and systematic assessments, and develop comprehensive goal-directed interdisciplinary plans.
  • Administer and note reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications, and arrange further medical attention when necessary.
  • Assist patients in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment, and maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
  • Test for vital signs of pain and ensure treatments of pain, document patient information on medical charts, and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform administrative assignments, such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes in the computer system.
  • Provide courteous, high-quality service to patients and members of the public, and participate in educational programs, inservices, meetings, and workshops to enhance professional skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Minimum one year clinical experience, preferably in an acute and/or Behavioral Health capacity.
  • Current RN or LPN license in the State of Connecticut, in good standing.

Key Competencies:

  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • Ability to apply professional nursing care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of geropsychiatric patients.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work calmly in situations requiring sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
