Masonicare Health Center - Behavioral Health Nurse Job Description

Masonicare Health Center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Behavioral Health Nurse to join our team. As a Behavioral Health Nurse, you will provide high-quality care to emotionally disturbed and mentally ill patients in a 50-bed Behavioral Health Hospital Unit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional nursing care to patients, including medication administration, teaching, and supervision of nursing staff.
  • Conduct intake assessments, perform ongoing and systematic assessments, and develop comprehensive goal-directed interdisciplinary plans.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer and note reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications, and arrange further medical attention when necessary.
  • Assist patients in understanding their emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients, and test for vital signs of pain and ensure treatments of pain.
  • Document all patient information on medical charts and follow physician's written orders, maintaining patient confidentiality and accurate records.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, with a BSN preferred.
  • Minimum one year clinical experience, preferably in an acute and/or Behavioral Health capacity.
  • Current RN or LPN license in the State of Connecticut, in good standing.
Competencies:
  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • Understanding of social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
  • Ability to apply professional nursing care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of geropsychiatric patients.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work calmly in situations requiring sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
