Position Overview:
The Associate Program Manager plays a pivotal role in the management or co-management of contract programs within the Airbus U.S. Space Systems portfolio. This position acts as a primary liaison with customers, ensuring that all program aspects are executed effectively to meet established cost, schedule, and performance targets. The APM is responsible for coordinating efforts across various centralized functions, including engineering, supply chain, finance, trade compliance, and legal, to fulfill all program requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management (45%):
- Assists in managing assigned space program(s) under close supervision.
- Monitors technical tasks, costs, schedules, and risks for programs of lower complexity.
- Oversees project planning, budgeting, and scheduling while providing regular updates to supervisors.
- Facilitates daily project direction and support, collaborating with team members to execute program plans within budget and schedule constraints.
- Develops detailed Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and manages project costs against the baseline.
- Works with master schedulers to create timelines that highlight major milestones and resource allocation needs.
- Tracks leading indicators, identifies potential issues, and recommends corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensures completion of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs) and manages adherence to timelines across internal and external organizations.
- Oversees milestone progress and invoicing for completed work.
Stakeholder Engagement (25%):
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with customers and stakeholders to ensure successful program execution.
- Manages partnerships, including program definition, reviews, deliverables, and risk management.
- Establishes effective working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and other external stakeholders.
Financial and Compliance Coordination (25%):
- Collaborates with finance, contracting, supply chain, compliance, and security teams to ensure projects are managed according to financial and contractual requirements.
- Provides guidance to keep programs on track and within scope.
- Utilizes project management experience to enhance Airbus U.S. project management processes.
Additional Duties: Other responsibilities as assigned (5%)
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace, systems, electrical, mechanical, or thermal engineering, or a related STEM field is required.
Certifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is recommended.
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in satellite design or production.
- Experience in technical or business project management is preferred.
- Familiarity with subcontracting and supply chain management is highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of space systems and technologies.
- Familiarity with U.S. government contracts.
- Knowledge of program management metrics and reporting methods.
Communication Skills:
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with complex issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Technical Proficiency:
- Proficient in Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience with MS Office suite and MS Project.
- Familiarity with Salesforce and Deltek systems is a plus.
Travel Requirements:
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Eligibility:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Clearance:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance is necessary.
Decision-Making:
- Able to manage multiple activities and make decisions within legal and ethical boundaries.
