Position Overview:
Evening shifts provide a $2.25 hourly shift differential.
ROLE SUMMARY:

The individual is accountable for maintaining a clean and secure environment within the facility by adhering to established cleaning protocols. Under the general oversight of the Environmental Services supervisor, coordinator, or lead personnel, they may receive instructions from a nursing director or departmental supervisor regarding housekeeping requirements for specific areas. Responsibilities include cleaning both patient and non-patient zones within the healthcare facility. Services encompass surface sanitation, floor maintenance, carpet care, and the relocation of equipment and furnishings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold the principles of care and expected conduct as outlined in the MercyOne Dubuque/Dyersville Medical Center's Model of Caring and Trinity Health's Code of Conduct, ensuring all customers are treated in alignment with the organization's Mission and Values.
  • Maintain familiarity with relevant Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program and Standards of Conduct, to ensure compliance and reflect ethical and professional behavior.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service by greeting all individuals warmly, introducing oneself, and addressing any issues promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure patient rooms are kept clean and perform discharge cleaning to meet hospital standards, including emptying waste and linen containers, high dusting, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, and preparing beds for new patients.
  • Maintain cleanliness in office and ancillary areas, with regular audits for quality control.
  • Possess knowledge of isolation protocols and perform specialized cleaning as required.
  • Keep cleaning carts, equipment, and storage areas organized and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Report any maintenance needs for equipment, furniture, and facilities to the appropriate personnel.
  • Conduct thorough deep cleaning of assigned areas on an annual basis.
  • Utilize cleaning products and equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Actively contribute to enhancing the quality of service provided by the department.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and training sessions.
  • Engage in initiatives to improve patient safety and minimize risks, adhering to Safety and Infection Control procedures.
  • Comply with JCAHO standards, including proper signage and equipment checks.
  • Understand and follow all safety protocols, reporting any incidents or hazards observed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in janitorial services preferred; familiarity with hospital cleaning standards is advantageous but not required as training will be provided.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within six months of hire and every three years thereafter.
  • Foster a professional and collaborative work environment to promote a positive public image for MercyOne Dubuque/Dyersville Medical Center.
  • Understand and comply with all laws and regulations related to patient health, safety, and medical information.
  • Ability to adapt to the varying demands of patients, the public, and colleagues.
  • Effective communication skills with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Familiarity with the use and care of housekeeping chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other departments.
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy in interactions with patients and the public.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient, employee, and organizational information.
  • Follow both oral and written instructions and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and access to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) information.
  • Understanding of Universal Precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) for maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Exhibit appropriate personal appearance, adhering to departmental dress standards.
