Trauma Care Nursing Coordinator

The Trauma Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the Director in the daily management of the trauma program. This position is essential for assessing, coordinating, and evaluating the comprehensive care provided to trauma patients, ensuring the optimization of the trauma care system.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Master's degree is preferred. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution is required. A current RN license in Ohio is mandatory. Preferred qualifications include a State of Ohio EMS Instructor or Special Topics Instructor certification, along with TNCC instructor credentials.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three years of recent experience in emergency or critical care nursing is required, with at least five years of overall nursing experience. Certification in emergency nursing or critical care nursing is preferred, along with Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. Trauma Nursing Core Course certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification are also preferred.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
In-depth knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill job responsibilities in both technical and dimensional aspects are required. The candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of specialized fields or a broad working knowledge of professional nursing. The ability to analyze and interpret complex information is essential, as is the capacity to determine appropriate actions based on general guidelines.
DECISION MAKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING:
This role requires sound judgment and analytical skills to plan, investigate issues, and evaluate alternative solutions to challenges. The candidate will make decisions based on an analysis of facts and general principles, often requiring risk-taking and adaptability to existing practices.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND IMPACT:
The Trauma Coordinator is accountable for the outcomes within their work area, impacting the overall operations of the health services. This includes developing strategic plans and contributing to decision-making processes as an information resource.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION:
Strong interpersonal skills are essential for advising others on sensitive issues, requiring staff management and delegation abilities. The candidate must demonstrate considerable tact and listening skills to achieve effective results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide leadership and strategic oversight to ensure alignment with the health center's mission and values.
2. Plan, direct, assess, and evaluate programs to ensure market competitiveness and operational effectiveness.
3. Manage departmental resources in accordance with budgetary guidelines and departmental activities.
4. Coordinate trauma services, ensuring compliance with established criteria and preparing departments for evaluations.
5. Serve as a role model in trauma nursing practice, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community agencies.
6. Assess and evaluate care rendered to trauma patients, facilitating quality assurance reviews.
7. Coordinate trauma education initiatives, including community outreach and professional development programs.
8. Engage in research related to trauma systems, implementing findings to enhance patient care.
