Trauma Care Nursing Coordinator

The Trauma Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting the Director in the daily management of the trauma program. This position is essential for assessing, coordinating, and evaluating all facets of care provided to trauma patients, ensuring the optimization of the trauma care system.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Master's Degree is preferred, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution required. A current RN license in Ohio is mandatory. Additional qualifications such as State of Ohio EMS Instructor or Special Topics Instructor, TNCC instructor certification, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support are advantageous.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three years of recent experience in emergency or critical care nursing is required, alongside at least five years of overall nursing experience. Certification in emergency or critical care nursing is preferred, along with Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification and Trauma Nursing Core Course certification.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
The role demands a comprehensive understanding of both technical and professional nursing practices. Candidates should possess:
• In-depth knowledge of specialized nursing fields.
• The ability to analyze and interpret complex information.
• Decision-making skills based on established guidelines.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING:
This position requires strong judgment and analytical skills to address various challenges. Decisions are made based on factual analysis and general principles, with the need for adaptability in existing practices.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND IMPACT:
The Trauma Coordinator is accountable for the operational effectiveness of the trauma program, influencing the overall performance of health services. This includes developing strategic plans and contributing to decision-making processes.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION:
Strong communication skills are essential for advising and collaborating with various stakeholders. The role involves:
• Advising on sensitive issues.
• Managing staff and delegating responsibilities.
• Exercising tact and persuasion to achieve desired outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide leadership and strategic oversight to ensure alignment with the health center's mission and values.
2. Plan, direct, assess, and evaluate operations to maintain market competitiveness and compliance with organizational standards.
3. Manage departmental resources effectively, participating in budget processes and resource allocation.
4. Coordinate trauma services, ensuring compliance with established criteria and facilitating site visits.
5. Serve as a role model in trauma nursing practice, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.
6. Assess and evaluate trauma patient care, collaborating with health teams for quality assurance.
7. Coordinate trauma education initiatives, collaborating with educational departments for community outreach.
8. Engage in research related to trauma systems, implementing findings to improve nursing practices.
