The Health and Civil Sector at Leidos is seeking a Human Performance and Sleep Research Specialist to join our team within the Naval Health Research Center's Warfighter Performance Department. This position offers a unique chance to leverage your expertise in research to support our mission of enhancing operational capabilities and promoting the well-being of Warfighters.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Conduct and lead research initiatives in both laboratory and field environments aimed at developing technologies for fatigue risk assessment and other operational uses.
- Act as the co-Investigator and primary liaison for the research team.
- Design and execute experiments to assess the effectiveness and precision of sleep monitoring technologies and wearable devices.
- Handle and analyze extensive datasets that include accelerometry, heart rate, and various physiological metrics.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of research outcomes, methodologies, and findings for internal reporting.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, data analysts, and military personnel, to devise innovative solutions related to sleep, fatigue, and human performance research.
- Manage and operate research instruments, including various wearable sensors and data collection systems.
- Formulate and implement protocols for data collection and analysis using diverse experimental methodologies.
- Stay informed on the latest developments in sleep monitoring technologies and wearables.
- Provide mentorship and technical support to junior researchers and team members.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at academic conferences.
- Engage with industry partners to explore collaboration and technology transfer opportunities.
- Contribute to grant writing and funding proposals to support ongoing research projects.
- Occasionally work outside of standard hours as necessary for research execution.
- Travel as needed for project requirements.
- Perform additional duties as required to fulfill the research mission.

**Required Qualifications:**
- PhD in Physiology, Psychology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Human Factors, Behavioral Science, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience post-PhD, ideally in a technology-focused environment.
- At least 4 years of experience with wearable technology for data collection and analysis.
- Proficiency in both basic and advanced statistical modeling techniques.
- Established history of conducting research in sleep science with an emphasis on technology innovation.
- Strong grasp of technical concepts related to data management and signal processing.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated capability to lead research projects and guide junior researchers.
- Publication history in peer-reviewed journals focused on sleep science and technology.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Willingness to work onsite as directed.
- Ability to travel as required.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- At least 6 years of experience in research and process improvement within military or applied settings.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as R, Python, or MATLAB is advantageous.
- Understanding of system architecture and cloud computing concepts is preferred.
