Job Title: Building Handy Person

Job Summary:

The Building Handy Person will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and safety of Casa Mutua, a 54-unit permanent supportive housing residence for formerly unhoused single adults living with mental health diagnoses. This role will work closely with the Facilities and Operations Team, Property Management, and Program Social Services Staff to ensure the building's facilities are well-maintained, safe, and secure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the proper maintenance and repair of the building, including equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Manage external relationships with vendors and contractors, ensuring timely and cost-effective services.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs of building systems, including mechanical, plumbing, and electrical grids.
  • Serve as a liaison with city agencies, including DHCR, HPD, HUD, and DHS, to ensure compliance with fiscal and program property management requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with social services staff to address tenant-related concerns, rent issues, and lease compliance.
  • Implement day-to-day rental collection operations, maintain accurate property management files, and work with tenants on property management issues.
  • Ensure Casa Mutua complies with all relevant City, State, and Federal building and health codes.
  • Participate in inspections and audits by government agencies, funding sources, insurance companies, and other relevant institutions.
  • Supervise 24/7 operations, including on-site security vendors, and provide on-call property management coverage.
  • Collaborate with Lenox Hill Neighborhood House staff from multiple departments and disciplines effectively.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in property management, building maintenance, security, or a related field.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, customer service, and administrative skills.
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of individuals living with mental health diagnoses or formerly unhoused populations.
  • Direct experience working with clients in social services or community-based health settings preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of performing duties including bending, squatting, stretching, and lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stoop, stand, climb, frequently lift a minimum of 50 pounds of equipment, and safely install rigging/lifting devices.
  • Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
  • Involves movement between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work.
  • Regularly required to utilize vision abilities, allowing reading of printed material, drawings, and schematics.
