Position Summary

The Polysomnography Specialist II is responsible for conducting thorough sleep evaluations and analyses, as well as implementing necessary interventions under the guidance of a sleep technologist or medical director. This role includes overseeing the activities of sleep trainees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Uphold the mission, vision, and values of somniTech.
  • Ensure patient safety by maintaining a secure and therapeutic environment.
  • Upon patient arrival, confirm identity, review medical directives, gather documentation, and secure consent for the sleep study.
  • Provide clear explanations of procedures and orient patients for both in-center and out-of-center sleep assessments.
  • Guarantee the availability of proper equipment for each procedure.
  • Attach electrodes and sensors in accordance with established standards.
  • Conduct routine fittings and desensitization for Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) interfaces.
  • Address procedural inquiries from sleep patients by offering accurate information.
  • Adhere to procedural protocols (e.g., Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test, parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration) to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Perform necessary physiological calibrations to ensure signal integrity and make adjustments as needed.
  • Implement lights-out procedures to document baseline values (e.g., body position, oxygen saturation, respiratory and heart rates).
  • Conduct lights-on procedures to verify data integrity and complete the data collection process.
  • Assist in the management of supplies and equipment.
  • Document all records and documents accurately and concisely as per policy.
  • Engage in quality assessment initiatives as directed to enhance patient care and improve center operations.
  • Adhere to attendance policies.
  • Respond promptly to changes in patient conditions or priorities.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and center-related information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read, write legibly, communicate effectively, and follow instructions.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and compliance with mandatory training programs.
  • Familiarity with applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to safety and infection control.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification is required.
  • Proficient computer skills relevant to the position.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification.
  • Completion of a sleep technology program from a state-licensed or nationally accredited institution is preferred.
  • Six months of experience as a Sleep Technician I with documented proficiency in required competencies is preferred.
  • Possession of a Certified Polysomnography Technician (CPSGT) credential or equivalent, or a BRPT-aligned credential making them board eligible is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and repetitive motions; categorized as Category 1 Occupational exposure.
  • Physical demands include frequent standing, full range of motion including crouching, stooping, reaching, bending, and twisting. Must be able to use hands for various tasks, climb, balance, and communicate effectively. Regular lifting of up to ten (10) pounds, frequent lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds is required. Specific vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
