POSITION OVERVIEW


The Behavior Support Specialist will play a crucial role in evaluating and executing effective behavioral strategies, including demonstrating best practices for ongoing enhancement of social-emotional learning and academic instructional methods that influence classroom dynamics.

This position is designed to assist the Behavior Supervisor and Behavior Program Coordinator in empowering the educational institution and its educators to address the diverse learning and behavioral requirements of all students.


The primary objective of the specialist is to guarantee that educational staff develops the knowledge and competencies to: 1) improve behavioral and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) instructional methodologies at the classroom level, 2) elevate student performance, and 3) boost graduation rates and outcomes for students with behavioral challenges.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Complying with Board policies, district protocols, and contractual commitments.

Exhibiting professional and ethical conduct while maintaining confidentiality.

Assisting the team in the execution of behavioral plans and instructional approaches as directed by the Behavior Supervisor and Behavior Program Coordinator.

Supporting the team in gathering data necessary for functional behavior assessments and intervention strategies.

Assisting the Behavior Coordinator with functional behavior assessment processes.


Providing support to educators by demonstrating techniques, showcasing effective behavioral intervention methods, and aiding in individual and/or group planning and problem-solving.

Helping prepare materials, including those required for behavior management.


Fostering and maintaining trusting, productive relationships with educators, administrators, para-educators, AEA personnel, external agencies, and other colleagues both individually and in teams.

Assisting in sourcing and organizing resources to promote student success.

Helping educators in the collection, analysis, and application of diverse data.

Assisting in the preparation and delivery of professional development training sessions related to behavior.

Collaborating with other behavior support professionals to optimize resources.

Actively participating in training programs aimed at enhancing skills and proficiency relevant to the role.

Demonstrating enthusiasm for learning and supporting the belief that all students can achieve success.

Completing additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum educational requirements include a high school diploma and at least two years of experience working with at-risk youth. Completion of 40 hours of Behavior Technician training upon hire is required.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Job performance will be assessed according to the criteria outlined in the Employee Handbook.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Strong written and verbal communication abilities are essential for success in this role.

Must possess the capability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including school staff, administrators, AEA personnel, parents, and representatives from external agencies.

Effective listening skills are also crucial.

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING SKILLS
Advocates for the District and special education initiatives through positive support, modeling, and constructive dialogue.

The Behavior Support Specialist will be a cooperative team member who speaks positively and supportively about education, teaching, learning, and the District.

PROBLEM-SOLVING AND FACILITATION SKILLS

Must be an effective team member and facilitator in various situations.

This role requires the ability to assist educators and teams in enhancing skills and program planning for students with disabilities, particularly in circumstances where staff and parents may be facing intensive, challenging behaviors.

The position necessitates the ability to model, observe, and provide feedback in a constructive manner.

ANALYTICAL AND REASONING SKILLS
Must possess skills in observing and collecting data that will inform decision-making. The role involves assisting educators in data collection and implementing educational plans.

ATTENDANCE
Consistent attendance is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal office physical demands. May occasionally require lifting up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. Generally, the employee works indoors.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Must be proficient in using computers, processing electronic requests, and retrieving and printing information from various software applications as needed.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED


Will perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent or designee, necessary and appropriate to achieve the program and/or District goals and objectives.
