Position Overview

The Automotive and Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing essential maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of vehicles and heavy machinery utilized in public works operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine servicing of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, as well as light and heavy construction equipment.
  • Work independently while adhering to safety standards and protocols.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean and organized workshop environment.
  • Perform safety inspections and report any urgent repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Execute basic repairs, including tire changes, battery installations, and electrical component replacements.
  • Participate in the operation of medium to large equipment as required.
  • Engage in various tasks related to the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure.
Mechanic II Responsibilities
  • Oversee complex repairs and maintenance of vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Support the shop foreman in diagnosing mechanical issues and determining effective solutions.
  • Perform advanced repairs, including engine rebuilds and heavy-duty welding.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and assist in inventory management.
Qualifications

Candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional training or certification in mechanical repair, welding, or related fields being advantageous. A valid driver's license is required, and candidates must be able to lift and handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

This role involves both indoor and outdoor work, requiring physical stamina and the ability to operate in various weather conditions. Safety precautions must be observed at all times.
