We are seeking a skilled Lead Interpreter to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a key member of our educational programs, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and informative presentations about American history to diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver high-quality presentations about American history, focusing on the colonial and early national periods.
- Engage with visitors, school groups, and event attendees, providing historical context and insights.
- Monitor exhibits and ensure the safety of visitors and the security of our collections.
- Provide administrative support to the Highland team, including engagement with tour group operators, visitors, and donors, and event administration.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge of American history.
- Commitment to engaging in truthful and inclusive historical narratives.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills, including public speaking, narrative storytelling, and selection and sharing of appropriate detail.
- Attention to visitor needs for a positive site experience.
- Computer competencies, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn and use new technologies.
- Previous engagement with study and presentation of American history, teaching at any level.
- Previous work experience interacting with the public.
- Prior experience with written and oral communications in a professional setting.
This is an hourly, non-benefited position up to 26 hours a week. The employee is expected to work a 3-day/wk schedule most of the year, including some weekend hours and occasional evenings.
