Overview
The Head of Marketing and Communications will directly report to the President/CEO. This role is responsible for the formulation of objectives and strategies, as well as the execution of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aimed at promoting the biomedical research services of the National Disease Research Interchange (NDRI) to the scientific community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the establishment of marketing and communications objectives and strategies to enhance NDRI's visibility among targeted demographics.
- Design and implement marketing and communications initiatives for both existing and new programs to foster engagement with scientific audiences.
- Formulate and execute internal communication strategies that cultivate a unified organizational culture, ensuring employees are informed and engaged with organizational changes.
- Employ marketing analytics to assess and illustrate the effectiveness of outreach efforts and campaigns, continually enhancing the customer experience.
- Direct ongoing website and social media initiatives to facilitate client acquisition and revenue growth, focusing on content creation, site usability, and customer conversion optimization.
- Establish methods to track competitive intelligence data to evaluate NDRI's market position in the procurement and distribution of human biospecimens, informing strategies for business development.
- Regularly update crisis communication plans and protocols to safeguard the organization's reputation during challenging circumstances; act as a skilled spokesperson during crises, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
- Oversee the creation and management of all exhibit materials for use at scientific conferences and other events, managing communications before and after these engagements.
- Ensure editorial and design oversight of all marketing and public relations materials produced by the organization.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with writers, printers, designers, and other vendors, including managing contracts and negotiations.
- Identify and create public relations opportunities that will enhance, sustain, and protect the organization's brand and reputation.
- Some travel may be required.
Supervisory Duties
- This position includes direct supervision of the Digital Marketing Specialist.
Work Schedule
- This is a full-time role requiring on-site presence three days a week. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday.
Qualifications
1. A Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field, with 7 to 10 years of proven experience in managing communications and marketing functions.
2. Experience in project management within a multi-project environment.
3. Demonstrated success in developing and executing effective marketing and communications strategies.
4. Advanced proficiency in digital marketing, email marketing, website management, social media, and content marketing.
5. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, actively listen, and work as a team player while being open to constructive feedback.
6. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of crafting impactful messages that resonate with key scientific audiences, resulting in measurable organizational benefits.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience in the biomedical research or health-related sectors.
2. Background in non-profit organizations or professional associations.
3. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, website development, and email marketing software.
4. Proven writing and editorial skills, with the ability to manage the production process from writing and editing to design, layout, and delivery.
5. Experience with platforms such as Meta Business Suite and other social media management tools.
6. A strategic and creative mindset with experience in engaging scientific audiences and stakeholders.
