Role Overview: IT Risk Specialist

As an IT Risk Specialist, you will:

  • Conduct examinations and monitoring tasks to assess the effectiveness of financial institutions' information technology and cybersecurity frameworks, ensuring that remediation efforts for identified vulnerabilities are validated.
  • Develop supervisory strategies that are relevant and risk-based, taking into account the size and complexity of the financial institutions under review.
  • Create comprehensive supervisory documents and work papers, clearly communicating complex supervisory findings and necessary actions to senior management and boards of directors.
  • Evaluate IT and cybersecurity risk management strategies and threat intelligence reports to ascertain risks and their potential impact on financial institutions and the broader financial services sector.
  • Lead and contribute to System initiatives aimed at formulating effective supervisory policies, guidance, and analytical thought leadership.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior colleagues.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Proven experience in auditing or risk management, particularly in IT and cybersecurity controls, with advanced knowledge of frameworks such as FFIEC, NIST, and ISO.
  • Possession of an industry-recognized information security certification (e.g., CISA, CRISC, CISM, CISSP) is preferred.
  • Experience in regulatory or governmental agencies or within the financial services sector is advantageous.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and negotiate effectively with various levels of management and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams with diverse stakeholders under tight deadlines.
  • Ongoing awareness of current and emerging technologies is essential.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit developing leadership qualities and foster a collaborative and inclusive workplace.
  • Maintain peer networks for comparative risk assessments.
  • Effectively manage administrative tasks, including expense reporting and record keeping.
  • Demonstrate core competency skills at relevant levels, both internally and externally.
  • Adhere to all applicable information security policies and guidelines.
Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Commissioned by the Board of Governors or holds a commission from a federal banking supervision agency, or has an agreement to pursue commissioning is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in IT or cyber risk management is necessary, with familiarity in auditing or managing IT security and technical controls using industry-standard frameworks.
  • Experience in regulatory agencies, financial services, or technology service providers is preferred.
Other Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including potential overnight travel.
