Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Juvenile Detention Officer III to join our team at Dallas County. As a lead officer, you will provide direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour detention facility, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct day-to-day supervision to youths, enforcing facility rules and documenting behavior.
  • Assume divisional responsibility in the absence of the shift supervisor, making critical decisions during crisis situations.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling to promote personal awareness and responsibility.
  • Discipline youths, document behavior, and forward information to appropriate personnel.
  • Train and evaluate staff, maintain time and attendance records, and transport youths to appointments.
  • Perform inspections, rounds, and drills, including room checks and physical searches of youths.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school/GED program.
  • Two (2) years of work-related experience.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Must maintain 40 hours of training yearly.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license, with a good driving record.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation.
  • Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.
Working Conditions

Works inside a secured facility with potential exposure to hepatitis, tuberculosis, lice, and other diseases. Ability to restrain and/or chase youths. May be required to utilize a vehicle to transport youths.
