Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Juvenile Detention Officer III to join our team at Dallas County. As a lead officer, you will be responsible for providing direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour detention facility, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct day-to-day supervision to youths, enforcing facility rules and documenting behavior.
  • Assume divisional responsibility in the absence of the shift supervisor, making sound judgments and decisions during crisis situations.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling to promote personal awareness and responsibility among youths.
  • Discipline youths, administer medications, and transport them to appointments as needed.
  • Train and evaluate staff, maintaining time and attendance records.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED program.
  • Two years of work-related experience.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Pass an extensive background investigation and mandatory drug testing.
Working Conditions

This position requires working with juveniles who may have committed dangerous or aggressive acts, and the ability to work in an emotionally demanding and stressful environment. You may be required to work mandatory overtime, remain on duty, or be held over to a work location or alternate site.
