Job Overview

Barkan Management Company is seeking a skilled full-time Maintenance Assistant to support our operations. We value teamwork and a positive work environment where tasks are accomplished efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of maintenance tasks that do not require a license, including electrical, plumbing, flooring, carpentry, heating and air conditioning, and landscape irrigation systems.
  • Execute minor repairs and enhancements in shared spaces promptly.
  • Carry out general carpentry tasks such as painting, finish carpentry, and repairs to windows, glass, doors, and locks.
  • Assist with urgent roof repairs and maintenance of gutters, downspouts, and exterior siding.
  • Support waste management efforts and maintain cleanliness in outdoor areas and common spaces.
  • Participate in snow and ice removal activities.
  • Provide emergency on-call service for maintenance-related issues outside of regular hours as needed.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks effectively.
  • Maintain a respectful and positive demeanor towards residents, vendors, and colleagues, working collaboratively with all parties.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with residents, team members, vendors, and supervisors.
  • Adhere to all personnel management policies and procedures.
  • Conduct inspections of grounds, buildings, and community features to mitigate liability risks.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and hazard communication programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance supervisor to uphold the physical condition and appearance of the property, enhancing community value while following company standards.
  • Complete special projects and tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Property Manager.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in community management maintenance, building maintenance, or a related field. Renovation experience is advantageous.

Attendance and Availability

  • Consistent attendance during scheduled hours is essential, including potential overtime when required.
  • On-call emergency service is necessary on a rotating basis, with a requirement to reside within a reasonable distance for prompt response.

Physical Demands

  • The role involves significant hands-on repair and maintenance work.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and using ladders to heights exceeding 8 to 9 feet; ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures.

Licenses and Equipment

  • A valid driver's license and current automobile insurance are mandatory.
  • Possession of basic hand tools is required; tools are not provided by the company.
  • Utilization of general maintenance equipment, including hand tools, ladders, and landscaping tools, while ensuring safety for oneself and others.
  • Appropriate safety gear and footwear, such as work boots, are necessary.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various forms of information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and efficient.
  • Team-oriented with the capability to work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Specialized skills in diagnosing and repairing basic plumbing and electrical issues, carpentry, roofing, and snow removal.

Computer Proficiency

  • Basic knowledge of computers and the Internet.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook is preferred.
