Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at Goodwill NYNJ. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing psychosocial rehabilitation services to adults with psychiatric disabilities and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage and Support Members
    • Assist members in identifying and achieving their recovery goals utilizing peer supports and person-centered services.
  • Coordinate Clubhouse Operations
    • Coordinate aspects of the work integral to the operation of the Clubhouse.
  • Facilitate Community Meetings
    • Facilitate community/unit meetings and tasks.
  • Manage Member Records
    • Manage member case records and documentation.
  • Connect Members to Resources
    • Connect members to community resources.
  • Teach Coping Strategies
    • Teach effective coping strategies based on personal experience.
  • Deliver Social Activities
    • Deliver social and recreational activities.
  • Advocate for Members
    • Advocate on behalf of members with outside service providers.
  • Support Self-Advocacy
    • Support members' self-advocacy.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Peer Certification
    • OMH Peer Certification required.
  • Advocacy Experience
    • Experience in providing advocacy services.
  • Education
    • High School diploma required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Communication Skills
    • Ability to carry out responsibilities in a communal setting.
  • Time Management
    • Capable of handling multiple demands.
  • Energy and Enthusiasm
    • Vibrant energy for member engagement.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Knowledge of Wellness Self-Management and WRAP planning.
  • Language Skills
    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Computer Skills
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications.

Working Conditions

  • Saturday Work
    • Some Saturdays work and holiday coverage required.
  • Training
    • Three weeks clubhouse training outside New York State.
