The Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Lead Security Engineer to join our Black Lotus Labs team. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage Lumen's unique visibility to hunt Advanced Persistent Threat actors (APTs) and scale discovery of evolving malicious threats.

As a key member of our team, you'll work alongside advanced security researchers, data engineers, and malware reverse engineers to tackle evolving threats accelerated by technologies like our Hadoop ecosystem, Elasticsearch, and Redis clusters.

This is a close-knit, experienced team that you can be a part of and help build out. This is a remote/work-from-home opening with periodic in-person collaboration in the D.C. area.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work with the team to scale analysis of evolving threats and tracking threat actors leveraging support from data science tools sets developed by data scientists at the Lab.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) analysts and conduct trend analysis on learned tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to uncover patterns found within our data holdings.
  • Research and analyze threat actor activities on the Internet using Black Lotus Labs data holdings to develop analytical models to aid in the detection of malicious or anomalous events found in large data sets.
  • Develop data analytics that drive cluster efficiencies and scale our capability when tracking malicious cyber actors (MCAs).
  • Develop and implement automated workflows to identify and analyze trends found within our data holdings.
What We Look For in a Candidate

We're looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual with a strong background in cybersecurity, computer science, or a related field. Desired candidates will have:

  • Ability to analyze large data sets and present conclusions drawn from them.
  • Scripting experience with Python and familiarity with distributed computing.
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to quickly pick up new methods, tools, and programming languages.
  • Familiarity with extracting data through SQL.
  • User-level experience in a Unix-based environment.
  • Strong writing skills to assist in sharing our knowledge with the public.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of several of the following areas: PySpark, Pandas, SQL, data visualization, and graph analytics.
Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location-based pay ranges are as follows:

$167,211 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

$176,211 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

$184,815 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

$193,617 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
