Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Youth Development Counselor to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Houston. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing quality care and support to children in our before and after-school programs and camps.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety and security of all children in the program at all times.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques to promote a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Implement a variety of age-appropriate activities, including structured and unstructured activities, to encourage positive social interactions among children.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety, child protection, and confidentiality.
  • Supervise children under the direction of the Site Lead and make sound decisions in alignment with YMCA and state standards.
Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least 6 months working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school, or equivalent.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
Work Environment

The work environment is primarily indoor, with some exposure to outdoor environments. The noise level is usually moderate. The physical demands of the job include light to moderate lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, balancing, and crouching.

Work Schedule

The work schedule is part-time, typically Monday-Friday, with afternoon shifts from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Camps run concurrently with ISD calendar breaks. Must be available to attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
