Job Overview

DIRECT HIRE | Utility Technician | Advastar, Inc.

The Utility Technician is responsible for the effective operation, oversight, and upkeep of essential plant utility systems. This includes air compressors, chillers, fire tube boilers, clarifiers, filter presses, fire suppression systems, reverse osmosis systems, and HVAC equipment.

  • Compensation is projected at $30-36 per hour.
  • Expected work hours range from 45-55 hours per week, including overtime.
  • Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, from 6am to 4:30pm.
  • Position transitions to UNION status after a successful 90-day probationary period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute daily tasks and projects as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Perform repairs on utility equipment utilizing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical skills.
  • Identify and address root causes of equipment malfunctions to restore optimal functionality.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, labor, and parts utilized in the CMMS system.
  • Ensure adherence to local reporting and operational standards.
  • Support compliance with preventive maintenance schedules and critical maintenance activities.
  • Interpret and analyze blueprints and schematics effectively.
  • Conduct maintenance and comprehensive overhauls of utility equipment.
  • Coordinate with contractors for significant repairs and overhauls.
  • Carry out daily testing, water chemistry evaluations, and record findings.
  • Adhere to Lock Out Tag Out Procedures diligently.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with plant utility systems, including compressors, boilers, fire suppression systems, and HVAC.
  • Capability to obtain a boiler operator license within a 6-month timeframe.
  • Possession of a Class K wastewater certification or the ability to secure one within 6 months.
  • Strong proficiency in reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and PIDs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in diagnosing issues with heating and cooling systems.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Currently engaged in a plant utility maintenance role.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A 2-year vocational or trade school certificate in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or related fields is preferred.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification is a plus.
