About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Specialist to join our Houston Electric organization. As a key member of our Safety and Training team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our employees and the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily safety support to assigned work groups, conducting observations and audits to ensure safe and proper procedures are being followed.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend programs, practices, tools, and equipment aimed at reducing or eliminating risk for Electric Operations personnel.
  • Participate in and lead Learning Events within the organization, conducting incident investigations to identify causes and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with various departments and levels of leadership on the development, delivery, and implementation of effective safety programs and policies.
  • Support the organization's SIF prevention strategy through discussions, presentations, and training.
  • Review, interpret, and apply workplace safety standards, such as OSHA, NESC, NFPA, ANSI, and ASTM.
  • Monitor and review safety data for trends and identify risk reduction strategies.
  • Develop and conduct safety training and presentations.
  • Maintain relationships with appropriate agencies and stay up-to-date on regulatory and governmental proceedings to identify impacts to the organization.
  • Assist the legal department as required regarding occupational safety and potential exposure concerns.
  • Participate in Emergency Operations when emergency response is activated.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety or a related technical field (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Science, Business, or Behavioral Sciences) from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Safety, with preferred experience in Electric Utilities, Power Generation, Electrical Contractors, or within an industry where Electrical safety knowledge is required.
  • Preferred valid certification as a CSP, ASP, CUSP, OHST, or CHST.
