Backend Engineer for Scalable Infrastructure

The infrastructure at Airtable is advancing to support our rapidly expanding engineering organization. We are seeking backend engineers to enhance our essential product infrastructure, focusing on creating systems that prioritize developer experience and scalability.

Current openings include:

  • Storage Team: This team's goal is to expedite product development by offering scalable, dependable, and user-friendly storage solutions. We utilize technologies such as RDS MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and TiDB. Ideal candidates will have an interest in distributed systems and databases, eager to work on mission-critical, petabyte-scale storage systems. You will be responsible for all facets of building, operating, and refining these systems, from the foundational infrastructure to the developer-facing code abstractions.
  • Data Infrastructure Team: This team's mission is to facilitate data-driven decision-making by providing reliable, self-service, high-performance analytics infrastructure. We employ technologies like Redshift, Spark, Trino, Kinesis, and Flink to process extensive data volumes in our data warehouse. This infrastructure supports Airtable's data engineers, analysts, and product developers working on data-driven features.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and spearhead significant enhancements to Airtable's infrastructure, collaborating across teams and product areas to maximize both business and engineering outcomes.
  • Tackle systems-level challenges in a complex design environment where scalability, efficiency, reliability, and security are paramount.
  • Create clean, reusable, and maintainable abstractions that will serve Airtable's engineers for years to come.
  • Assume full ownership of components within Airtable's infrastructure, ensuring reliability, performance, efficiency, and observability of our production environment.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of industry experience, with a strong desire to learn new technologies in a dynamic environment. Note that this position is not suitable for recent graduates.
  • Experience in databases, distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and data infrastructure.
  • A passion for refactoring and developing clean abstractions to simplify complex systems for developers.
  • A solid foundation in computer science, with a degree in CS or a related field.
  • Currently based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City.

Compensation: Compensation for successful candidates will vary based on work location, relevant skills, and experience. The base salary range for this role is $148,100 - $221,500 for positions in major urban areas. Our comprehensive compensation package includes benefits, restricted stock units, and potential incentive compensation.
