Our medical team comprises more than 125 proficient physicians across various specialties, including Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, Rehabilitation, and more.
Position Overview:
The Surgical Services First Assistant plays a crucial role in the operating room, providing essential support to the lead surgeon during surgical interventions as a Certified First Assistant (CFA). When not acting in this capacity, the individual will also perform duties as a surgical technician. This role involves meticulous planning and preparation for advanced surgical procedures within a diverse service environment, fostering collaboration within the surgical team.
Essential Duties:
- Complete annual contact obligations and participate in at least 75% of unit meetings, either in person or through review of minutes.
- Attend all required in-service training sessions.
- Document a minimum of 10 educational hours in addition to mandatory training.
- Assist in the orientation and cross-training of new staff, students, and departmental personnel as needed.
- Exhibit proper management of surgical materials (instruments, sponges, needles, etc.).
- Demonstrate various techniques for handling sharps safely.
- Ensure accountability for surgical items.
- Maintain care and accountability for surgical specimens.
- Engage in self-directed learning and pursue continuing education annually to fulfill personal and departmental development requirements.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- BLS certification is mandatory.
- Certification as a First Assistant (CFA) is required.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operating room is essential; three (3) years is preferred.
- Strong communication skills are necessary.
- Basic computer skills and typing proficiency are required.
