We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to join our team at the Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, NY.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will assist scientists with laboratory and investigative procedures, perform various assays, imaging analyses, and molecular biology experiments to support research projects in the GI Oncology translational lab.
Key Responsibilities- Design, plan, and carry out experiments independently or semi-independently.
- Analyze and interpret experimental results, providing input on subsequent experimental designs.
- Analyze data using basic computer software and report results to the principal investigator and colleagues.
- Evaluate, recommend, and develop new techniques to enhance laboratory efficiency.
- Conduct literature searches and assist in editing scientific publications, abstracts, and posters.
- Provide working supervision to junior laboratory staff and technical support to faculty and staff.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new investigators, fellows, residents, and technical staff.
- Perform routine molecular biology laboratory procedures, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR assays, flow-cytometry experiments, and gel electrophoresis.
- May assist in the isolation of cfDNA from patient-derived plasma and detection of circulating tumor cells.
- May perform experiments to genotype patient-specific SNPs, identify and validate patient tumor-specific DNA and/or RNA mutations, and profile DNA methylation patterns.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records, logs, and summary reports of all procedures and results.
- Ensure a clean working area and follow safe laboratory practices.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents, and order supplies as authorized.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- At least 1-2 years of lab experience.
- Desirable skills: experience in handling patient samples, working in a sequencing facility, and flow cytometry analysis.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Practical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to flexible schedules if needed.
