Position Overview:
This role involves managing both outpatient and inpatient registrations, ensuring financial clearance and compliance. Responsibilities include collecting patient financial contributions, offering general assistance to hospital visitors, patients, families, and medical offices. The specialist ensures patients meet financial prerequisites, including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre-certifications, and referrals.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional patient-centered service and communicate effectively to enhance patient flow and service quality.
- Greet patients upon arrival and input their information into the tracking system, adhering to hospital policies and compliance standards.
- Collect and verify state-issued identification and accurately assign medical record numbers.
- Input and validate patient demographic and primary care physician details into the hospital information system, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Understand and manage various insurance payer requirements, including obtaining necessary referrals and forms.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits at registration and during any changes in patient status.
- Ensure all physician scripts are complete and compliant, addressing any discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain knowledge of coding basics for diagnoses and procedures to facilitate insurance authorizations and Medicare compliance.

Financial Management:
- Collect self-pay deposits, co-payments, and deductibles, while identifying any outstanding balances from previous visits.
- Accurately post all patient payments into the hospital system and provide receipts to patients or their representatives.
- Follow departmental policies for handling and safeguarding financial transactions, reconciling payments at the end of each shift.

Patient Support:
- Assist patients with financial assistance inquiries and refer them to financial counseling as necessary.
- Distribute information regarding financial policies and obtain necessary legal signatures for treatment consents.

Collaboration and Compliance:
- Work closely with the clinical team to ensure patient safety and efficient service delivery.
- Adhere to downtime and disaster protocols, implementing departmental procedures as needed.
- Maintain high attention to detail, ensuring all registrations meet departmental accuracy standards.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of one year in patient access functions within a healthcare setting preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and diagnostic coding is essential.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Work Environment:
- This position operates in a standard office setting, requiring frequent communication with various stakeholders.
