Job Overview

Position Summary

The Crane Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe operation of various cranes (including hydro cranes, lattice boom crawler cranes, and pile driving hammers) to lift, maneuver, and position materials and objects efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate construction machinery in compliance with company protocols and safety standards.
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Navigate equipment accurately to avert accidents and property damage.
  • Perform pre-operational checks and maintain equipment through lubrication, refilling, and cleaning as needed.
  • Control levers and pedals to elevate, lower, and rotate the boom, as well as to adjust load lines.
  • Lift, lower, and rotate the boom or load based on visual cues or signals from a designated helper.
  • Adhere to precise limits and accuracy standards during operations.
  • Ensure the rigging used is suitable for the tasks at hand and utilized correctly.
  • Complete job tickets, service quality summaries, and other necessary documentation accurately and neatly.
  • Set up blocks and outriggers to prevent tipping during load lifting.
  • Operate machinery in diverse conditions while maintaining situational awareness.
  • Report significant repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned or as required by circumstances.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Capability to read and understand departmental regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Flexibility and a cooperative attitude, with the willingness to undertake other construction tasks when not operating a crane.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of three years of crane operation experience in a construction setting.
  • Experience with pile driving is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with multiple types of construction equipment is advantageous.
  • Current NCCCO certification with TLL and LBC is mandatory.
  • A valid driver’s license is required; a CDL is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with random drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.
Work Environment
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Risk of exposure to moving mechanical components.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations.
  • Typically loud noise levels in the work environment.
  • Requirement to wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed boots, and safety vests.
Physical Requirements
  • Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Frequent lifting or moving of heavy materials (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Ability to navigate uneven and steep terrain.
  • Quick response to auditory signals is necessary.
  • Capability to bend, stoop, and climb to access materials or operate heavy machinery.
  • Effective communication of information and ideas for clarity.
