Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing complex media and reagents, maintaining inventory systems, and performing quality control checks.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Media Preparation: Prepare complex filter and heat-sterilized media and reagents according to standard protocols and procedures.
  2. Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining the inventory system of media, reagents, and glassware, and ensure accurate tracking and documentation.
  3. Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on media and reagents, and ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, EPA, TNI, CAP, and CLIA specifications.
  4. Equipment Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, plate pouring hoods, freezers, and other equipment.
  5. Technical Support: Provide technical support to the section, including troubleshooting equipment and media issues, and providing input for process improvements.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of microbiological and chemical techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to assess needs for inventory of stock and request required supplies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to use various items of laboratory equipment, including computers for word processing, spreadsheet, and database analysis.
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff, work independently, and follow standard operating procedures and protocols.
Working Conditions:

The employee will work in a laboratory setting, with moderate supervision, and will be required to follow standard protocols and procedures. The employee will also be required to participate in weekend and holiday rotation duties.
