The mission of Stanford Continuing Studies is to extend the rich educational resources of Stanford University to adult learners in the Bay Area and beyond.

Within the Continuing Studies unit is the Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI), which invites 25-35 accomplished leaders to Stanford for a year-long program focused on intellectual exploration, renewal, and preparation for impactful future roles.

Stanford Continuing Studies is looking for a Financial Analyst to join the finance team in the Dean's Office.
Reporting to the Finance Manager for CSP and Summer Session, the Financial Analyst will have comprehensive responsibilities for the financial operations of both the Continuing Studies Program (CSP) and the Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI).

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the annual budget processes for CSP and DCI, partnering with key department colleagues, program leadership, and finance team members to ensure timely, accurate, and meaningful budget submissions.

Develop and prepare financial reports for management, ranging from high-level summaries to detailed analyses, including variance and trend analysis, ad hoc decision support, consolidated budget reporting, and budget presentations.

Manage and oversee all financial activities for CSP and DCI, including purchasing, revenue collection, and account reconciliation.

Oversee period-end close processes, including managing year-end accruals, fund transfers, and timely transaction posting and reporting, consolidating data from multiple sources.

Collaborate with department staff on financial strategy, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.

Serve as a key partner to leadership in supporting financial strategy, ensuring strong programmatic budget management, and training new staff on financial policies and administration.

Act as a liaison with central university offices involved in financial management, representing the unit and responding to requests.

Supervise the Administrative Associate 3 and manage financial training and mentorship for all department staff with financial responsibilities.

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, particularly Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems and internet literacy.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare materials and effectively communicate information to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to contribute to or lead parts of a multifunctional team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong consulting and partnering skills, with the ability to lead and influence employees at all levels and work effectively with unit/program directors.

Proven success in performing meticulous, high-quality, and compliant work.

Ability to interpret complex research and fiscal policies, assimilate information from diverse resources, and act as a mentor and resource to others.

Application Process:

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by submitting a one-page cover letter and résumé with their online application.
