Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated cooks to join our team at BRIA Health Services. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the preparation of nutritious meals while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepare, season, and cook a variety of foods including meats, vegetables, soups, and desserts according to established recipes.
2. Ensure that all food is prepared in adequate quantities to meet service demands.
3. Coordinate food preparation to align with service schedules.
4. Estimate food needs and efficiently utilize leftovers.
5. Present meals in an appealing and appetizing manner.
6. Properly handle, store, and refrigerate food items.
7. Standardize recipes and determine portion sizes for meals.
8. Order daily food supplies and ingredients.
9. Supervise and guide kitchen staff in food preparation and sanitation practices.
10. Maintain cleanliness of the work area and kitchen equipment.
11. Submit requests for kitchen equipment maintenance as needed.
12. Collaborate with management and dietitians to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
13. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Dietary Department.
14. Comply with all federal and state regulations regarding food safety and sanitation.
Qualifications:
Experience in large-scale food preparation within a healthcare or residential setting is required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead and manage others effectively. A clean record regarding abuse, neglect, or misappropriation is essential. Regular and punctual attendance is expected.
Skills and Abilities:
Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Basic math skills for recipe adjustments are necessary. Candidates should be able to read, write, and perform simple calculations, as well as follow both oral and written instructions. Familiarity with cooking various foods in large quantities and knowledge of seasonings and cooking times is important. Ability to prepare and serve modified diet menus is required. A pleasant demeanor and high standards of personal hygiene are essential. Candidates must work well with others and foster positive relationships within the team.
Working Environment:
The role involves working in a well-lit kitchen that may be hot, humid, and noisy. Employees will experience interruptions and interact with staff, visitors, and residents. There may be occasional exposure to challenging situations with residents. Frequent use of cleaning chemicals will occur, and necessary protective equipment will be provided. Employees will also experience temperature variations between hot and cold areas.
