Job Title: Packaging Specialist 2

Description:

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Packaging Specialist 2 to join the Experimental Device Engineering and Assembly Group (E-5).

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and compliant packaging and/or transportation of classified materials. This includes providing technical assistance to customers regarding hazardous materials/classified matter packaging and transportation, fulfilling packaging and transportation requests, and coordinating with customers/custodians to arrange hazardous transport/material scheduling.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management, as well as knowledge of accountability (MC&A), coordination, packaging, and/or transportation (HMPT) regulations, storage, and disposition.

Additionally, the candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to support customers with tact, diplomacy, discretion, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe and compliant packaging and/or transportation of classified materials
  • Provide technical assistance to customers regarding hazardous materials/classified matter packaging and transportation
  • Fulfill packaging and transportation requests
  • Coordinate with customers/custodians to arrange hazardous transport/material scheduling
  • Conduct inventories of high explosives, hazardous materials, and/or classified matter using tools such as the Classified Parts Inventory Management System (CPIMS), LANMAS/LAMCAS, etc.
  • Management, coordination, quality control, storage, and disposition of materials
  • Serve as a high explosive (HE) handler


Requirements:

* Technical: Experience working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management, as well as knowledge of accountability (MC&A), coordination, packaging, and/or transportation (HMPT) regulations, storage, and disposition.
* Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to support customers with tact, diplomacy, discretion, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

* High Explosives Handler Qualification
* Working knowledge of P101-8, Explosives Safety, and the controlling document, DOE Standard Formerly the DOE Explosives Safety Manual
* Experience in high-hazard operations (HE/rad)

Certifications/Education:

* Current LANL Authorized Shipper in all hazard classes and divisions
* Class B Commercial driver's license (CDL)
* Rad Worker II certification
* Forklift license

Work Environment:

* Standing for long periods of time

Work Location:

* The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment:

* Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
