Description


The Laboratory Operations Supervisor is responsible for executing the company's lubricant formulation strategy by leading and managing laboratory staff and chemists. This role serves as the primary liaison for internal departments, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.

This position involves prioritizing tasks and overseeing the daily functions of the laboratory, guaranteeing that procedures, controls, and quality assurance programs are effectively implemented and adhered to.

The Laboratory Operations Supervisor and their team are tasked with supporting the business in formulation development across a diverse array of products, including but not limited to automotive fluids (engine oils, gear oils, transmission fluids, etc.), natural gas engine oils, industrial fluids, soaps, and cleaners. This role also includes optimizing and integrating formulation technologies in line with sourcing, regulatory, and technological advancements. Please note that this is a safety-sensitive position.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor laboratory personnel.
  • Oversee all daily operations of the laboratory, including equipment management, consumables, and overall lab presentation.
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, work instructions, forms, training, and performance reporting.
  • Collaborate with sales teams and clients to identify and manage new product development initiatives.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain a rigorous evaluation process for raw material approvals.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues faced by customers.
  • Assist private label clients in troubleshooting technical challenges and driving sales growth.
  • Work closely with plant operations to enhance manufacturing processes and address production-related issues.
  • Manage and control obsolete inventory in collaboration with plant teams.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers while staying informed about market trends for raw materials and finished products.
  • Research raw material availability while considering market trends to develop lubricants that are both effective and cost-efficient.
  • Coordinate the submission of new patent applications as innovations are developed.
  • Review the product library and identify new formulation strategies that reduce costs while preserving product quality.
  • Support the generation of product information sheets by providing necessary technical details.
  • Represent the company at various industry technical conferences and events.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Industry Certifications:
STLE CLS, CMFS, OMA, NLGI, CLGS

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned tasks.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
