Position Overview

The Kitchen Sanitation Specialist is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen and food preparation areas. This role involves washing and properly storing all kitchenware, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for food preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen area to prevent health and safety risks.
  • Efficiently wash dishes, glassware, utensils, and cookware according to established safety standards and operational procedures.
  • Immediately report any accidents, health issues, or near-miss incidents to the supervising manager.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and readiness to perform assigned duties during emergency situations.

Essential Duties

  • Utilize dishwashing machines or hand-washing techniques to clean all kitchen wares in compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Polish silverware, platters, and chafing dishes to ensure a high standard of presentation.
  • Manage waste by collecting trash, emptying bins, and cleaning areas to maintain a tidy workspace.
  • Inspect garbage for any reusable items such as silverware or glassware.
  • Clean and polish stainless steel surfaces throughout the kitchen, including shelves and appliances.
  • Ensure cleanliness in receiving, trash, and other kitchen-related areas.
  • Perform floor maintenance by sweeping and mopping as necessary.
  • Store all kitchen items in designated areas to maintain organization.
  • Follow a scheduled cleaning routine for dishwashing machines and work areas.
  • Assist with food preparation and storage tasks as needed.
  • Keep track of inventory for cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Safely handle and transfer supplies between storage and work areas.
  • Handle all dishware and glassware with care to minimize breakage.
  • Regularly inspect kitchen floors to ensure they are clean and free of hazards.
  • Participate in weekly cleaning and maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Store cleaning equipment properly after use.
  • Use cleaning chemicals safely and responsibly.
  • Support food servers by prioritizing the cleaning of essential service items.
  • Adhere to proper sanitation practices, including personal hygiene standards.
  • Attend departmental meetings to stay informed on operational procedures.
  • Complete additional tasks as directed by kitchen management.

Qualifications

  • No specific licenses or certifications required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in a hot, humid, and sometimes noisy kitchen environment.

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
