Job Overview:

Madison College is seeking a dedicated Part-time Custodian to enhance our facilities team. This position encompasses a variety of essential custodial responsibilities that require both diligence and independence. While the custodian will receive guidance from supervisors or lead custodians, they will not oversee other custodians and will not be solely responsible for any specific building. The Engineering/Operations Manager or Facilities Custodial Supervisor will provide direction, with additional input from the custodial lead worker for specialized tasks. This role may also involve coordinating the efforts of student assistants, temporary staff, and work-study personnel.

The work schedule is regularly set for Monday through Friday from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Decision-making responsibilities include:
    • Utilizing hazardous materials - Making informed decisions on usage and mixing.
    • Employing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) - Choosing the right PPE for various tasks to ensure safety.
    • Planning nightly work schedules to complete assigned tasks.
    • Handling sensitive documents with care.
    • Guiding student helpers, contracted personnel, and part-time staff.
    • Selecting the appropriate machines and tools for various tasks.
  • Performing routine cleaning tasks within Madison College facilities, including but not limited to:
    • Dusting, sweeping, and mopping all hard surfaces.
    • Vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets and rugs.
    • Emptying and sanitizing waste receptacles.
    • Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and fixtures.
  • Executing general non-cleaning duties within the facilities, including but not limited to:
    • Setting up and dismantling rooms for scheduled events.
    • Restocking and managing custodial supply inventory.
    • Collecting and sorting recyclable materials.
  • Adhering to college policies, directives, and work regulations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by department or college officials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Effective and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with diverse populations and individuals with disabilities.
  • Basic knowledge of math, electricity, and plumbing.
  • Familiarity with the proper use of hand tools and custodial equipment, including vacuums, auto scrubbers, and other related tools.
  • Understanding of basic safety protocols related to custodial work.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least six (6) months of relevant work experience related to the skills necessary for this position.
Madison College does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
