Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Roadway Maintenance Technician to join our team at the Texas Department of Transportation. As a Roadway Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for performing routine transportation operations and maintenance support work, including roadway maintenance and repair, light and heavy equipment operation, and traffic control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts
  • Perform basic welding as needed
  • Operate light and heavy equipment, including front-end loaders, pneumatic rollers, and backhoes
  • Identify, analyze, and implement solutions for complex maintenance problems
  • Provide support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites and assist stranded motorists
  • Maintain highways and rights-of-way, perform roadway repairs, and erect and repair guard rails, highway markers, and signs
  • Sand or clean bridges and roads, post warning signs, and help the public during emergency situations
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of transportation operations and maintenance principles, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills. You will also need to be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to changing weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and snow. You will also be required to work at heights and in confined spaces.
