Environmental Compliance Technician

We provide essential services and guidance to prominent institutions in sectors such as higher education, life sciences, healthcare, and industry, focusing on hazardous waste management and regulatory compliance.

This position will report to the Assistant Lab Services Manager and will be based at client locations in the designated area. You will operate out of our office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough evaluations on-site to identify and classify hazardous waste materials.
  • Safely package and separate various types of hazardous chemicals and waste for transport and disposal.
  • Prepare and label containers in accordance with regulatory standards and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of waste disposal activities, including manifests and shipping records.
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate with clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies regarding waste management procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to hazardous waste handling and transportation.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of waste materials and supplies necessary for waste handling operations.
  • Oversee the physical transfer of hazardous materials, including packing, loading, transporting, and unloading.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations involving hazardous materials.
  • Safely operate a commercial vehicle while transporting hazardous materials.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the hazardous waste sector, or relevant military experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex issues, devise solutions, and implement strategies for positive outcomes.
  • Skilled in establishing strong, positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without future sponsorship.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Willingness to undergo Motor Vehicle Record screening, criminal background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening.
  • Participation in a random drug screening program is required upon employment.
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds regularly.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours during the work week.
  • Commitment to completing a 2 to 3-year professional advancement program in hazardous waste management.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations within a specified timeframe.
  • This role involves handling hazardous chemicals and biological waste, requiring the use of personal protective equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior relevant industry experience.
  • Successful experience in a customer service capacity.
  • Active HAZWOPER 24- or 40-hour certification.
