About the Position:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a temporary role as a Student Support Advisor to assist both undergraduate and graduate students in their academic journeys. This position involves collaboration with the Program Advisor to guide students toward relevant resources, establish clear pathways for program completion, evaluate records for graduation eligibility, and manage academic processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with a diverse student population regarding academic requirements, deadlines, registration, program details, and general inquiries;
  • Provide guidance to students in special education and assistive technology programs on academic standards, study plans, and administrative processes;
  • Develop academic course outlines for students, utilizing the Navigate Mason system for appointment scheduling and reporting;
  • Maintain accurate student records in compliance with privacy regulations, using Ellucian Banner systems for updates;
  • Ensure timely and effective communication with students and relevant stakeholders;
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to deliver exceptional service; and
  • Assist in orientation and recruitment events as an advisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential student information;
  • Familiarity with university policies and systems;
  • Proficiency in computer applications and ability to learn new systems;
  • Proven teamwork capabilities; and
  • Experience in customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with student management systems;
  • Understanding of academic processes and policies;
  • Familiarity with academic actions and form processing; and
  • Previous experience in higher education advising.
