Metalico is a leading full-service, broadly diversified scrap metal recycler, principally operating in the Northeastern United States. Our scrap operations source, buy, process, and sell four distinct groups of commodity metals for use in the manufacture of new products: We recycle scrap steel and iron, which is sold primarily to domestic mills and foundries. We recycle non-ferrous metals, principally aluminum, copper, lead, and nickel-based steel and high temperature alloys. These products are sold to domestic manufacturers and, to a lesser extent, to the export markets. We buy catalytic converters and recover platinum, palladium, and rhodium, known as Platinum Group Metals (PGM's). These precious metals are typically refined and reused by industry in emissions control devices. Metalico today employs 600 people in 27 operating locations across 6 states. Metalico is headquartered in Cranford, New Jersey.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Material Handling Specialist to join our non-ferrous receiving team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the efficient processing of scrap metal by identifying, sorting, and categorizing various materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately identify and sort ferrous and non-ferrous metals, inspecting, weighing, and categorizing them into designated areas based on grade.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in identifying different types of metal being delivered to the facility.
  • Utilize visual recognition and other methods to meticulously categorize materials. Training will be provided, but a quick learning aptitude is essential.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to individuals bringing scrap metal for processing.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience operating forklifts safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds consistently.
  • Skilled in identifying, sorting, and unloading various metal materials by commodity type.
  • Proficiency in using mechanized equipment to sort and/or break down materials according to customer specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area through regular sweeping and general housekeeping duties.
  • Commitment to adhering to Metalico company policies and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Willingness to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
